Niche Marketing Experiment

It started in December 2005. I came across a blog article about making money on the web using niche market websites and Google Adsense. The idea took hold in my mind and I found myself thinking about it throughout my Christmas vacation.

When I got back to a reliable Internet connection I started brainstorming for some niche market ideas to test the concept. My first goal was to find niches with broad enough public interest to get some traffic and with a base of advertisers who would pay for ad space. I came up with www.energyefficientheatingandcooling.com and www.colossaltv.com and bought the domains. ColossalTV was the first site I chose to develop.

My objective is to set up a simple website with good content, drawn from online article directories like www.articlecity.com and a few I write myself, add some direct links to affiliate account products like Amazon.com merchandise and my webhost company www.1and1.com. Then I would set up Google Adsense ads and start driving traffic to the site.

The work took about 2 days (I know I could streamline the process in the future and get a site together in a few hours.) There is plenty of room to improve the layout and navigation, but it is substantial enough to start the test. If I start seeing prospects for real revenue I’ll go back and refine the design for optimum revenue. For now, I’m working on search engine submission and getting other sites linked to my pages to build up search engine placements.

My hope is that I’m able to develop enough traffic and activity on the site to generate Adsense and Affiliate account revenue of twenty dollars a month. At the very least, I hope to get the traffic stats for these domain names strong enough to generate a sale and cover my expenses for the test.

My dream is that I’ll find a great way to make a few hundred dollars a month and start replicating the idea and building a whole collection of niche market websites.

I’ll keep you posted on my results.
