Rishi,

Here is part 2 of my answer to your comment (I wanted to address the affiliate link issue seperately.)

The promotional links you create will be determined by the company who runs the affiliate program. Sometimes a company like Clickbank, PayDotCom, PayLoadz, or Commission Junction runs the affiliate program for another company. Other times a company like Ebay or Amazon.com (or even individual product creators) will run their own affiliate programs. Each will provide you with the link code for making a referral.

There is even a script that is in wide usage called the $7 Secrets script that lets people just tack their PayPal address to the end of the domain name for the product and the script automatically sends the payment directly to the affiliate's PayPal account. The $7 Secrets script itself is sold this way.

When someone clicks your link and makes a purchase, the transaction is recorded with your name as the referrer. Then, your commissions are sent to you on a schedule determined by the individual program. ClickBank, Amazon, and others send out checks or make direct deposits to your bank once a month (if your commissions have reached a pre-determined payout threshold.)

Other affiliate programs will have their own specific payment criteria which will be clearly stated in their affiliate program documentation.

In the e-book I mention the "Niche Marketing On Crack" product that I was reviewing when I earned my first $100. That affiliate program is run directly by the author of the product. My affiliate link for that product looks like this:

http://www.nichemarketingoncrack.com?a_aid=79c93c97

The information after the ? is my affiliate ID information. Andrew Hansen pays commissions via PayPal one every month when your total commission balance is greater than $50.

I hope this offers some clarity for how the process works. There is a lot of variety in the exact way that specific programs are run, so I can't give a single answer to your question.

Rishi,

Thanks for leaving a comment and I'm glad you like my e-book.

The key, in my experience, to getting visitors from blog links is to <b>never ask anyone to visit your blog</b> and <b>always make valuable additions to the discussion.</b>

So, if someone is discussing a gardening technique (just a random example) that I had some knowledge of, I would either share my personal experience with the same technique and add any unique things I discovered, or mention research that I had done or something else that gives a sense of authority to my comment.

Then, I end my comment with my name and my web address (if the blog allows it.) Nearly every blog will allow you to enter your website address in the comment form and automatically create a hyperlink to that website anchored on the text of your name. If you had included a web address with this comment, your name (at the top of the comment) would be an active link leading to your website.

The primary strategy that motivates visitors is that you drop in and leave a very insightful comment - you are freely giving top quality information - and don't give any indication that you are trying to siphon off some traffic.

The people who read that comment will wonder who this incredibly wise person is leaving this comment and wonder what other fantastic stuff you may have written on your own website. If their first reaction after reading your comment isn't, 'wow, thanks for the great insight!' Then, you are doing it wrong.

After reading your amazing comment, then they go looking for a link that leads to more of your content.

If your posts all come across as empty comments that are only trying to get traffic, nobody will visit because you aren't offering any value to them and they expect that there is more of the same on the other side of the link.

Just visit the top blogs in your niche and join the conversation. Don't try to place links, just comment where you have something to say, and then place the link in your signature. Visitors will follow.

Hello Andrew, I was just reading what you have written in your e-book.
I think its an amazing strategy. Would it work if i had given links to my blog?
i have tried visiting peoples blogs in blogger to comment on articles that they have written on..and after each comment I told them to visit my blog too..but none of them did, the number of hits on my website stayed the same. Well, i just hope that your method works..i happen to be a part of few forums but i had never taken great intrest in replying to peoples posts, not even to thank them on what they have written on and so my rep is still zero haha.

It would be really helpful if you could "show" me what Kind of Links you talk about in the e-book..because i do not yet understand the payment process..how do you get paid by promoting somebodys product and/or webpage..hahaha.

Well,I shall wait for your reply haha
I have written 2 blogs so far and deleted both of them within 2 months time because i lost interest in the topic and had nothing more to write about..and with them, I had only generated $7 in total using Google Adsense..hahaha

Now, I am going to try out your technique..and when it begins to work for me, I will even begin writing reviews on you and your method hahahaha.

Anyways, I hope you have time to answer those questions i had above..
Thanks anyways dude..i found it very hepful :)

Oh by the way, I was trying to find a good name for my blog, so i tried "gotoguy.wordpress.com" but then it was taken..I googled it just for fun and YOUR website came up hahaha

Cheers,
Rishi. Vasandani

Jim,

I appreciate your kind words and the 'cup of coffee.' You made my day.

Make no mistake, I want to sell things and earn a living, but I don't want to trick anyone into buying something I don't find valuable or use myself. Most of the links above are affiliate links for the products mentioned. But, at the time of writing this post, I decided to use a free option and it was only fair to point that out.

Late last year I switched over to using Aweber for my autoresponders because it was taking far to much energy to manage my own and there were many features I wanted that only came with a paid service. I've been very happy with the switch.

If you want to keep up with my writing on Internet Marketing, check out the blog I started at www.GoToGuyEnterprises.com/blog . This is where I post most of my current writing on marketing and business. There's even a subscription form that uses Aweber which sends updates whenever I post new content.

Thanks for reading and supporting my work,

Christina,

Thank you so much for leaving a comment. It's always encouraging to get feedback and questions. And, it's really nice to know that what I've written is helpful.

I'm currently in the process of writing an ebook that collects together everything I learned and organizes it into a systematic approach to dealing with roaches that doesn't involve filling your home with poisons.

The website is www.CockroachAssassin.com and there are a couple SPECIAL REPORTS there that I'm giving away to people who sign up for the announcement list.

The bug bombs you mentioned are generally counter productive because the roaches just retreat from the area until the dust settles and then move right back in. Over time they will actually develop immunity to the poison as they reproduce.

The most effective thing you can do is seal off their travel paths so they can't move through the walls, cut off their food and water sources (water being the most important), and then capture the rest with glue traps and get them out of the house ASAP.

The problem with my 'cat lady' is that she has dementia. She doesn't have any family to care for her, so it is hard to get any social services intervention. It's a tough situation, but we are working with the city and the building management to help her get the care she needs (which at this stage is probably a nursing home.) If she were my mother, I wouldn't let her live the way she is.

I wish you the best of luck with your own bug control efforts. Please come back and leave a comment to let me know how things worked out for you.

Andrew, thank you so much for your blogging! I, too, have been freaked out by seeing roaches in our kitchen lately, and occasionally in the living room (where my 8-y-o son likes to take food) and the bathroom. We also have spiders and hornets sometimes in these areas (oops, forgot the laundry!) and I'm bug-phobic, so this is a BIG HAIRY DEAL! I am printing this off to show my husband, and hopefully we can get started with some of your tips tomorrow (or today, I guess). He is also struggling to get roaches out of his dad's rent house/duplex. They've bug bombed the place at least twice (most recently was at dinner time, and they didn't think to warn/notify the occupants of the other side of the duplex. OOPS!) and they're still having problems. I also greatly appreciate your focus on non-toxic methods. My 10-y-o & 8-y-o sons both have autism, and I had Terminix coming monthly when they were little. Coincidence? Hmmm... Worth avoiding the toxins anyway.

My suggestion to you about dealing with the cat lady is to print copies of this blog series and send them to everyone else in the building (maybe making judicious deletions of the parts regarding your neighbor) with a note that, "If you, too, are struggling to get rid of the bugs, here's what worked for us". My guess is that your upstairs neighbor is embarrassed by the untidy state of her apartment and/or afraid that someone will force her to get rid of her cats. I'm glad you're making progress in your own apartment.

My guess is that your upstairs neighbor is embarrassed by the untidy state of her apartment and/or afraid that someone will force her to get rid of her cats. I’m glad you’re making progress in your own apartment.

Judith,

Roaches love warmth and moisture - so your paradise is theirs as well.

While you probably can't seal off your home in the same way I did, it is still important to seal the cracks between walls and cabinets, walls and floors, and round plumbing pipes wherever possible. You want the roaches to have to travel along the outsides of the walls where you can strategically place traps to catch them.

Another thing you can do is dust Diatomaceous earth along the ground on the outside perimeter of your home and underneath it if you have a crawlspace under the house. This will help to kill roaches (and most anything else) trying to get in. Diatomaceous earth clumps together when when wet, which reduces it effectiveness, so you will need to reapply it from time to time.

Finally, make your house inhospitable to roaches. A solution of 1 tablespoon of Tobasco sauce and 1 quart of water sprayed on kitchen surfaces at night will deter the roaches from crawling on them. Cedar in drawers and closets will also repel them. Bay leaves have a similar effect so you can spread them around in likely roach hiding spots.

<a href="http://astore.amazon.com/cockroach-20/002-0586281-0961600?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=9" rel="nofollow">TimeMist</a> makes a product that mists a bug repellant/killer in short bursts at regular intervals like an air freshener. The mist is made from Pyrethrum which is a harmless (to humans) plant derivative that rapidly breaks down in the air but drives bugs away like crazy. It can be place in kitchens or baths or around any places where you are having significant problems. This is a solution used by many commercial food services and restaurants. The specific product I am referring to is available through the <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/cockroach-20/002-0586281-0961600?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=9" rel="nofollow">Cockroach Eradication Center Store</a>.

I hope these ideas are helpful as you develop a specific pest management strategy for your home.
